Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday met the Union Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal and sought resumption of Jammu Tawi- Udhampur Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) on immediate basis.According to a National Conference spokesperson, Dr Abdullah met the Union Minister in the national capital and expressed serious concern over discontinuation of the two DMUs on Jammu-Udhampur section, saying this has put the commuters in lot of hardships. He said the issue ought to have invited the attention of the Northern Railways keeping in view of huge dependence on the commuters on this important service and hoped that the issue would be sorted out on priority for the larger interest of travelling public.The Union Minister assured that he will look into the issue on priority and have it examined and sorted out on priority.The spokesperson said the issue had been raised with Dr Farooq Abdullah, Member Parliament from Jammu and Kashmir by the Provincial President National Conference and former MLA Nagrota Mr Devender Singh Rana yesterday. Mr Rana has also been in touch with Northern Railways in this regard.Responding to the plea of Mr Rana, the National Conference President took up the issue with the Union Railway Minister.The 53 kilometer Jammu-Udhampur railways stretch has almost emerged as life line for the commuters, especially the government employees besides enroute passengers mostly in Nagrota constituency who travel on the route on daily basis.
