Congress party submits memorandum to CM to enact stringent laws against drug peddling

A delegation of State Congress party led by the President Sukhvinder Singh Thakur presented a memorandum to Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur here  today regarding enacting stringent laws against the drug peddling in the State.The Delegation also urged the Chief Minister to frame stringent laws  against the drug abuse so that fears of laws discourage the drug peddlers to refrain from drug trafficking.The Chief Minister assured the delegation that  the state government was committed to make Himachal Pradesh a drug-free State of the country. He said that it was due the initiatives of the state  government that a meeting of seven neighbouring states was held at Chandigarh on Monday in which Chief Ministers of four northern states  participated.He said that it has been decided that a joint strategy would be chalked out by these neighbouring states to formulate an effective strategy  for checking drug abuse. He said that the state government would also take up the matter to check drug abuse and peddling of synthetic drugs by  conducting regular check on Pharma industries. Former Minister Ram Lal Thakur, former Chief Parliamentary Secretaries Rohit Thakur, Sohan Lal  Thakur and Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, former MLAs and other Congress leaders were present on the occasion.
