The health department on Tuesday conducted a slew of activities in the district under Punjab government's ambitious program Mission Tandarust Punjab to ensure overall wellness of people.A team led by food safety officer Mrs. Divya Bhagat took eight samples of the food items in the city including six milk samples, one salt and wheat flour from various areas including Urban Estate, Cool road, Model Town road and Garha. She said that the samples would be sent to state laboratory Chandigarh and action would be taken accordingly.Another team led by SMO Kala Bakra Dr. Surinder Pal carried out checking of food items being prepared in sweet shops at Bhogpur town of the district. They directed the sweet shop owners to maintain hygiene in their shops so that people could get quality food material.Likewise, in order to check the spread of vector-borne diseases, the health department also released Gambusia fish in various ponds of the district. Gambusia fish eats the mosquito larvae and helps in controlling the diseases Malaria and dengue.An official spokesperson of the department said that the administration is committed to ensuring safe products and good health of the residents. He told that such drives would be carried out in the coming days too.
