Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today gave a clarion call to people for becoming a part of the mass movement against drugs by ensuring their participation during mini marathon ‘Jalandhar Runs Against Drugs’ being organized by the administration on August 4.Interacting with the media persons here at the District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner said that the marathon aims at sensitizing the people and generating awareness amongst them regarding ‘Tandarust Punjab Mission’ launched by the state government and against the drug abuse. He said that already the district administration was making concerted efforts for checking this menace but all those initiatives could fructify only if the people of city comes forward to eliminate this curse. Mr. Sharma said that mini-marathon was an attempt by the administration to ensure maximum public participation against the drugs.The Deputy Commissioner said that thousands of volunteers from across the district would participate in this run to disseminate message against the curse.
He said that the run would commence from Guru Gobind Singh Stadium and culminate back there after passing through Chun-Mun Chowk, APJ School, BMC Chowk, Namdev Chowk, Skylark Chowk, Guru Nanak Mission Chowk and Milk Bar Chowk. Mr. Sharma said that the run would be held in four categories of Men, Women, veteran and children adding that in each category the winner, first runner up and second runner up would get a cash prize of Rs 3100, Rs 2100 and Rs 1100.The Deputy Commissioner that the run would start at 6 am in the morning and elaborate arrangements would be made by the district civil and Police administration for this mega event. He also solicited fulsome support and cooperation of the people of district for making this mega event a huge success. Mr. Sharma also thanked the ICICI Bank and Lovely Professional University for helping the administration to conduct this event.On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner accompanied by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jitendra Jorwal, Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr. Paramveer Singh, Revenue Officer Mr. Manohar Lal, Chairman Lovely Professional University Mr. Ramesh Mittal, Regional Head of ICICI Bank Mr. Yudhvir Gill, District Guidance Counselor Mr. Surjit Lal, District Sports Officer Mr. Balwinder Singh, Coach Mr. Umesh Sharma, Senior Manager of ICICI Bank Mr. Anuj Paul and others released the T-shirts designed specially for this mini-marathon.
