The representatives of Punjab Gaushala Mahasangh, a group representing 472 gaushalas in the State jointly met Mr. GS Kangar, Power Minister and Mr. Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Punjab under the aegis of Swami Krishna Nand of All India Gau Sewa Mission and handed over a memorandum pertaining to their demands. They were accompanied by Ms. Nimisha Mehta, spokesperson of Punjab Congress.They apprised the ministers about the need to waive off power bills of gaushalas as they were already in financial crisis and sustaining barely on donations. They sought immediate intervention to restore free power. A request for government aid for the cow pounds was also made. Swami Krishna Nand informed that all the cow shelters were packed to capacity. The cow once unproductive that is, when they stop yielding milk, is left on the streets by dairy farmers to fend for themselves. They cause traffic nightmares and loss of precious lives. So, the government must come forward to take care of the stray bovine.The ministers gave a patient and positive hearing to the delegation. Power Minister assured that he would flag the issue pertaining to free power to Gaushalas to Chief Minister Punjab, Capt. Amarinder Singh and press upon the need for in principle approval to the same. Mr. Bharat Bhushan Ashu reiterated that government will waive off power bills and restore free power and added their demands would favourably be routed to the concerned departments.
