Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, today convened a meeting to take stock of the arrangements being made by the divisional administration in the backdrop of incessant rains which caused flood-like situation in various areas of the Valley.The meeting was briefed that Food Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs (FCS&CA) Department has kept 2224 quintals of ration, 437 cooking gas cylinders available at the flood relief centres established for affected, while as Health Department has deployed Doctors and Para Medical staff on 16 centres along with requisite medicines including 6 lakh chlorine tablets. Apart from this, 500 tents, over 8000 blankets and 190 boats have also been stocked in these 40 centres so far.The meeting was told that Srinagar Municipal Corporation has kept ready 13 dewatering pumps in water-logging prone areas of the city. The Corporation has also put in place nine mobile toilets at those centres where it has become necessary.It was given out that R&B Department has started dismantling of Bailey bridge at Mehjoor Nagar as per the decisions taken previously in the meeting.The Red Cross has already stocked 2000 mineral water bottles, eatables at each relief centre and kitchen sets at some centres, the meeting was informed.

For ferrying men, material and machinery upto the relief centres, the State Road Transport Corporation has pressed into service 108 trucks while the Tourism Department has kept six motor boats ready for operation in the Dal Lake.The Divisional Commissioner asked Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar to carry out regular inspection of the centres to check whether the men, material and machinery are there at these centres in accordance with the directions issued to the officers of line departments from time to time. He directed the Deputy Commissioner to shift the flood relief centre established in Central Library, Lal Chowk to Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothibagh.The Divisional Commissioner said that these arrangements shall remain in force till the flood-like situation is completely over in the state. He asked the officers to work in an coordinated manner and ensure that the centers established are fully ready to cater to the needs of the affected.Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Syed Abid Rashid Shah, VC LAWDA, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control, Chief Engineer Public Health Engineering, Commissioner SMC, Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Superintending Engineers of R&B & PDD and senior officers from Revenue, Red Cross and Police were present in the meeting.
