Tawi Barrage Project: PHE Minister asks executing agency to resume work in 7 days

Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today directed the executing agency to restart the work of Auto Mechanically Operated Gated Barrage Project at Tawi within 7 days or face legal action as permitted under the contract.The Minister, while speaking at a meeting of the senior functionaries of the concerned department and representatives of executing agency M/s GVR Infra Projects Limited, the Minister said that if the executing agency failed to resume the construction work, its contract will be terminated and the balance work will be re-tendered to some another company.While reviewing the status of the Barrage project, the Minister strictly directed the concerned authorities to ensure that gates are put in place. Choudhary underlined the need for adopting professional approach while executing the developmental projects and cautioned the concerned departments against delay in meeting the deadline.The Minister instructed the officers of the concerned agencies to restart the work and expedite the pace of construction of allied works including Gates and Guide Wall. He directed the officials of the department to seize the machinery of the company, in case the executing agency fails to adhere to the directions.It is pertinent to mention that the project is comprised of thirty-one gates, eleven in Wadi Tawi and twenty in Nikki Tawi, which was approved at an estimated cost of Rs 70 Crore. The project will help in upgrading the irrigation facilities and the upcoming artificial lake is said to add to the beauty of the Tawi River front.
