Udhampur Administration tightens noose on nexus between schools and book shops

With regard to complaints poured by parents of the students studying in various private schools of Udhampur district regarding indulging of private school managements in unfair trade practices like selling of note books containing logo of private schools at exorbitant rates by giving undue benefits to the blue eyed shopkeepers and recommending of specific shops for purpose of buying books sets from particular shops,  District Magistrate, Udhampur Ravinder Kumar constituted a team consisting of Assistant Controller Legal Metrology, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Divisional Officer SPCB, Inspector Sales Tax, here today.The team visited various books shops in the city and found that schools namely Common Public Higher Secondary  School, Little Scholar School, Vivek  Niketan High School , Little  Higher School, Happy Model School, DAV School in nexus  with the blue eyed shopkeepers  selling the note books  with their respective logos at exorbitant rates  to the students.

The students are forced to buy these note books along with book sets  thus these schools are violating the provisions of J&K consumer protection act 1987 ( right to choose) . Every consumer has right to be assessed to variety of goods and services sold to him in the open market. Also these note books don’t contain mandatory declarations under package commodity rules 2011.During the visits, Inspector Legal Metrology booked the shopkeepers along with schools for violations of legal metrology act. Further the Assistant Controller, Jaideep Singh Samyal directed the shopkeepers not to sell these notebooks till further orders.Moreover it was also found that the shopkeepers are not giving the valid bills to the consumers, also the managements of the schools are served the notice to appear before the District Magistrate Udhampur.The team further appeal the parents of the students to lodge complains against the unfair trade practices adopted by the schools before the team in future.
