Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today participated in the closing ceremony of the traditional State Level Nalwari fair of Bilaspur.Speaking on the occasion, he said that fairs and festivals were integral part of cultural heritage and people should come forward to preserve the same.  He said Nalwari was a traditional festival of the state which had become quite famous for hosting traditional ‘Chinj’ (wrestling bouts) besides  its prominence as the cattle fair since ages.He said this fair was well known for the display, sale and purchase of cattle where the farmers had an opportunity to purchase better livestock, adding that as of today, the number of cattle which used to be the main attraction of the fair was diminishing.The Chief Minister also witnessed a bout of traditional ‘Chinj’ and released a souvenir of the Nalwari festival on the occasion.He distributed prizes to the winners of wrestling bouts in men and women categories.Deputy Commissioner Vivek Bhatia, who is also chairman of the Nalwar Festival welcomed and honoured the Chief Minister. MP Anurag Thakur, MLAs Ram Lal Thakur, Subhash Thakur, Rajinder Garg, JR Katwal, Rakesh Jamwal were also present on the occasion.
