Governor N.N. Vohra inaugurated a 2 day “Leadership Workshop for Women and Youth with Visual Impairment”, organized by the National Federation of the Blind at the Louise Braille Memorial (LBM) School for Sightless Girls, here today.Governor congratulated Sh. S.K. Rungta, General Secretary of the National Federation of Blind, for the commendable work being done for empowering people with disabilities, promoting their welfare by providing them equal opportunities, and ensuring protection of their Rights. Recalling his previous visit to the School some years back, Governor lauded the efforts of the school management and the Federation for achieving significant progress in the expansion of infrastructure and other facilities in this school.Governor observed that this Leadership Workshop in which participants from all over India are participating will be very useful for strengthening their capabilities and equipping them with new skills and knowledge.

In response to various issues raised by Sh. S.K. Rungta, General Secretary of the National Federation of Blind, Governor observed that all the difficulties faced by the specially abled will be taken up with Minister for Social Welfare and assured the Federation of all support. On the occasion, Governor presented Rs. 5 lakh as financial support to the School for enlarging its capacities.In his speech Sh. S.K. Rungta, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court and General Secretary of the National Federation of Blind, spoke about various issues relating to sightless people and requested for government’s timely support to address them.Dr. Kusumlata Malik, Prof. Delhi University and Chairperson of Women & Vice President of National Federation of the Blind of India in her Keynote speech highlighted the activities of the Federation.The programme started with lightning of the Lamp. The students of the school presented a Welcome song followed by a very good dance performance.The Welcome Speech was given by Sh. Mohinder Badiyal, Convenor National Federation of the Blind, J&K.Sh. Alok Puri, ADGP, and many other distinguished guests were present on the occasion.
