Government bars VC Kashmir and Jammu Universities from taking any policy matter decisions

Jammu Kashmir Government has directed the Vice Chancellors of Kashmir University and Jammu University not to take any decisions with regard to important policy matters.Pertinently, the tenure of VC Kashmir University Professor Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi and VC Jammu University Professor RD Sharma have already come to an end. The VC Kashmir University has already approached Court seeking the extension in his tenure.Principal Secretary to Governor, Umang Nirula has shot a letter vide number PS (a)/2018 to both the Vice Chancellors instructing them to refrain from taking any decision with regard to important policy matters. The communiqué, a copy of which lies with CNS reads: “In the context of the tenure of VC, University of Kashmir having already come to an end and that of VC Jammu University shortly coming to an end, I am desired to convey directions that no decision in regard to any policy matter or relating to selections/appointments to various senior vacant posts (teaching/non-teaching) should be taken without seeking the prior written approval from the office of the Chancellor.”For information, a copy of the order has already been dispatched to Rohit Kansal, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
