The Shiromani Akali Dal today strongly condemned the statement of the Punjab Congress Chief Capt. Amarinder Singh against Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Mr. Charanjit Singh Atwal and described it as highly unconstitutional, undemocratic and most unfortunate.
In a statement released from the party head office here today, the party Secretary and Spokesman Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that the statement has once again proved that Congress leaders are habitual of speaking against those constitutional bodies which do not work according to their wishes. He said that earlier Capt. Amarinder Singh has spoken against the appointment of Punjab Lokpal and their central leaders had openly criticised the working of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and other constitutional bodies as they had exposed the corruption of the Congress led UPA government.
Dr. Cheema further said that the issue could not be solved during the vidhan sabha session due to egoism and arrogance of the some of the Congress leaders. It was clear to everybody that some Congressmen were not in the control of leader of the opposition Mr. Sunil Jakhar and it was because of this that Congress party failed to meet the Speaker when the latter along with Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal waited for hours for the leader of the opposition and other senior Congress leaders to come. Even in today’s press statement this internal bickering within the Congress has once against come to light when Capt. Amarinder Singh has stated, “If you have any problems, you deal with me and do not harass my MLAs.” This clearly establishes that Capt. Amarinder Singh is trying to undermine the authority of the leader of the opposition who has been unanimously elected by the Congress Legislators.
