In line with its commitment to encourage sports personnel by providing them better job opportunities, the Punjab Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, on Wednesday approved the appointment of Ajitesh Kaushal, an international rifle shooter of repute, as a Sub Inspector in Punjab Police.Ajitesh Kaushal has so far won 85 medals in 'Shooting' at State, National and International levels. He is a classified 'A' grade sportsman of the Punjab Sports Department and was earlier rewarded Rs.5.22 lakhs in cash for his exceptional performances.Incidentally, Ajitesh’s father, Rakesh Kaushal, is a PPS officer, at present posted as the Commandant of 3rd Battalion at Mohali. Rakesh Kaushal had been on the forefront in the fight against terrorism in Punjab.It may be recalled that on August 24, the cabinet had approved the appointment of woman cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur as a DSP in Punjab Police department. The chief minister had offered the DSP post to Harmanpreet after her excellent performance, scoring 171 runs, in the semi-finals match of the ICC Women's World Cup.The Cabinet also regularized the services of three lecturers working on contract basis with Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur.The services of Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Dr. Harjeet Singh and Dr. Haroon Naeem Khan were regularised in consonance with the order of Punjab and Haryana High Court, in regards to the regularisation of services of 19 law officers.
