Cultural wing of Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) today organized an intercollegiate symposium on the topic “Means and ways to preserve and promote folk culture in changing times”.Joint Director Information, Manisha Sarin, Deputy Director (PR), Avleen Kour, Field Publicity Officer, Prilakshmi Slathia, Cultural Officer, Sana Khan and the staff of DIPR were present on the occasion.Speaking at the event, Joint Director, Manisha Sarin said that the symposium is among various activities being organized by the Information Department to generate awareness about diverse aspects of culture for both tangible and intangible art forms. “It is appreciable to see young minds come up with pragmatic steps to preserve traditional heritage which constitutes the first step towards their sustainable conservation”, she added.The competition was organized to raise awareness among the youth and subsequently engage them in analyzing innovative solutions for preserving and promoting folk culture.The district level symposium saw participation of students from  11 colleges who shared their views and provided valuable insights on possible interventions towards preservation and promotion of folk culture. The inputs shared on the platform covered diverse suggestions which ranged from student’s participation, civil society’s engagement, awareness generation and technical interventions to tapping the potential of print and social media.Hasit Singh Sachdeva from Government SPMR College, Tushar Sharma from GGM Science College and Harneet Singh from Jammu University bagged first, second and third positions respectively. Encouragement prizes were awarded to Sangpriya from GCW Parade and Sukriti Mahajan from Jammu University.The intercollegiate competition was adjudged by a panel of learned judges including Founder/Director Rangyug, Deepak Kumar, Assistant Professor, GDC Thannamandi, Shaji Khan and Youth Information Officer, Shabnam Jaipuria.
