Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) today organised one day training programme on commercial organic farming here at Talwara village. During the programme,   theoretical and   practical sessions were organised on organic farming.Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal gave a detail presentation on commercial organic farming. He said that eco-friendly organic farming is helpful for the enhancement of soil health, sustainable yield and income. He highlighted the need of organic farming to harvest quality farm produce without any residual effect.He said that organic agriculture products are in great demand across the globe as these keep us away from many ailments. He said the farmers should take the opportunities to become the entrepreneurs in organic farming and by doing so they can raise their socio-economic status.He also elaborated on vermicomposting technology, trichoderma application, liquid manure, biofertilisers, crop rotation, green manure, neem oil etc. They were also taught about preparation and use of Panchgavya, Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, fermented buttermilk etc.Dr Banarsi informed the farmers that organically grown crops can fetch more prices as compared to traditional farming and added that the area have immense potential for the same.    

He added that organic dairy and organic poultry farming can prove a boon to the farmers of the area. He also encouraged the farmers for constituting Self Help Groups (SHGs), farmers’ clubs and said that by doing so  they can start   micro-entrepreneurship in organic farming. He stressed on the value addition of the organic crops and stressed on the cultivation of turmeric and ginger crops as these crops are not affected by the monkeys.He also elaborated on various centrally and state sponsored schemes/programmes launched in the district especially for the farmers and urged them to take benefits of the same. He stressed on the proper marketing management of the organic crops.Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi, scientist guided the farmers about the organic treatments of insects-pests and diseases in Rabi crops. He recommended certain organic chemicals for their management. He added that organic vegetables grown under protected conditions give more yield and   can be grown  throughout year under the green net house/polyhouse. He also gave technical details about organic floriculture specially marigold cultivation, medicinal and aromatic plants, vegetables and fruits processing etc. The farmers also interacted with the scientists and cleared their doubts especially on commercial organic farming.
