Kupwara District Volleyball Championship 2017 was conducted from 25 Aug 17 to 31 Aug 17 at Upper Drugmulla Garrision by Thunderbolt Brigade of Vajr Division. The Championship received an overwhelming response from top 16 teams of various tehsils of Kupwara District. The aim of organising the tournament was in continuation with Indian Army’s pledge to work for constructive engagement of local youths and to give boost to local sporting talent.The tournament was played on league cum knock out basis. The tournament culminated with the final between XI Sports, Tarthpora and Shahwali Sports, Drugmulla on 31 Aug 2017. The zeal and sportsman’s spirit displayed by the contesting teams was testimony of the sporting culture and local talent in the district.Tremendous spirit and josh was displayed by both the teams during the final match of tournament in which XI Sports, Tarthpora team emerged victorious.
Mr Irfan Khaliq lone of Chowkibal was declared as man of the tournament. Mr Mudasir Ahmad of Karalpora and Mr Moshin Fareed of Trehgam was declared winners of District Volleyball Talent Hunt. Both the talent hunt winner will be provided further professional coaching at Elite Volleyball Academy, Srinagar. Brigadier Jayant Kar, Commander, Thunderbolt Brigade attended the final match as the chief guest and felicitated all participants. Trophies, individual medals including sports kit to include track suits, T-Shirts, Shorts, Volleyball Shoes, sock, caps etc and cash prizes were given away to both the winner and runner up teams. The event was witnessed by large number of school children, civil administrative dignitaries, village heads and local populace.The efforts of the Indian Army in conducting this event for constructive engagement of the youth was highly appreciated by the locals and will definitely go a long way in developing healthy bond between the Indian Army and Awam.
