A meeting of the Department Related Standing Committee (DRSC-II) of Legislative Council was held here today under the Chairmanship of legislator Ramesh Arora to review the functioning of the Social Welfare Department (SWD).Legislators, Ajatshatru Singh, G. N. Monga, Javed Ahmed and Khursheed Alam attended the meeting.During the meeting, the Committee asked the Department to provide details of proposal wherein 7000 Anganwari Centres are to be created. The members stressed on the need of taking local representatives into confidence in finalizing the proposal for its effective implementation.  The Chairman directed the SWD officials to formulate a proposal for the benefit of widows, and BPL children.Directions were given to the Department to provide details of State and Centrally sponsored schemes and status of their implementation besides amount released by the State and the Centre. Further they were asked to provide district wise details of pending applications for old age pensions, widow pension and other related pension schemes. The committee directed the Department to provide all details within 15 days for further discussion and deliberation.The Committee observed that the Social Welfare Department touches every field of life and thus further steps need to be taken to make it more vibrant so that it can further cater to needs of the society.Among others, Secretary Social Welfare Department, Sajad Ahmad Khan, Director Social Welfare Department, Hashmat Ali, State Mission Director JKWDC, G. A. Sofi , Managing Director JKWDC, Naheed Soz, besides senior officials of Social Welfare Department and Council Secretariat were present on the occasion.
