The Irrigation and Power Minister Punjab Rana Gurjeet Singh today asked the Kandi Area Development (KAD) administration to ensure judicious distribution of water in the Kandi area. He asked the department officials to ensure distribution of water as per updated record of availability of water and quantum of water needed in the concerned area without any prejudice.Rana Gurjeet Singh issued these instructions during a brainstorming session held here at Hydel Bhawan to find solutions for grievances being faced by the people of Kandi area. The eight MLAs from Kandi area namely Rajnish Kumar, MLA Mukerian, Arun Dogra, MLA Dasuya, Sangat Singh Gilzian, MLA Urmur, Pawan Adia, MLA Sham Churasi, Sunder Sham Arora, MLA Hoshiarpur, Dr. Raj Kumar, MLA Chabbewal, Darshan Lal Mangepur, MLA Balachaur and Lov Kumar Goldy, former MLA Garhshankar attended this meeting to discuss the issues of their respective areas.After watching a detailed presentation given by P. P. Garg, Chief Engineer, KAD/Vigilance regarding the Kandi Canal projects and initiatives of KAD administration to ensure availability of water in needed area, the Irrigation and Power Minister solicited the suggestion and objections of MLAs. He also instructed the officials of department to thoroughly work on suggestion given by the MLAs. He also asked KAD officials to conduct field visits in coordination the MLAs and people representatives of concerned areas to access the ground reality besides finding solution to the problems as per local requirements.

Reacting on the objections raised by the MLAs regarding quality and other irregularities in the projects, Rana Gurjeet Singh said that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has given them clear instruction that no corruption, irregularity or discrimination would be allowed at any level. He asked the officials of the department to make it sure that there should be no compromise with the quality of work. He asked the officials to plan and design the projects strictly according to available resources rather than wasting money on half baked projects. Stressing on the need of forming Water Users Associations, Irrigation Minister said that participation of direct beneficiaries must be encouraged to ensure proper operation and maintenance of irrigation system. He said that these Water Users Associations can also avail the benefit of the projects and schemes being run by union government to promote these associations.Concluding the session, Mr. KBS Sidhu, Special Chief Secretary ensured the Irrigation Minister that all the suggestion and outcomes of this discussion would be implemented in true spirit to ensure the welfare of the people from Kandi area.
