Srinagar , 16 May 2017

Activists from Dukhtaran-e-Milita (DeM) Tuesday staged a protest against continuous detention of its Chairperson Syedah Aasiya Andrabi and her associate Fehmeeda Sofi. Scores of DeM activists arrived in Press Enclave Srinagar and staged a protest demanding the release of Aasiya Andrabi and Fehmeeda Sofi. The protest was led by DeM General Secretary Nahida Nasreen.Amid pro-freedom slogans, the activists waved banners and placards depicting anti-India slogans. Talking to reporters, Nahida Nasreen said that India has been choking the voice of people of Kashmir and it has even feel scared of women leaders.“What sort of justice is it that you arrest an ailing woman leader without any justification? Aasiya Andrabi is on oxygen support as her health has deteriorated in custody. Instead of releasing her, the government has slapped draconian Public Safety Act on her and Fehmeeda Sofi and there are reports that both will be shifted to outside Kashmir jail,” she said. She alleged that police didn’t produce Aasiya Andrabi in court and instead, persuaded court to extend her remanded in her absence. “Police have made a mockery of the justice system. Kashmir is a police state where brutalities are being inflicted upon the freedom loving people,” she said. The protesting DeM activists dispersed peacefully after registering their protest. (CNS)
