Punjab government to set up Special Cell for students to stop exploitation by Travel Agents

A high level delegation from Chandigarh based Canadian Consulate General met Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi here today. Briefing about the meeting with the Canadian delegation Technical Education Minister said that the delegation led by Mr. Christopher Gibbons Counsel General and Gurbans Sobti Trade Manager from Canadian Consulate General, Chandigarh in principle agreed upon sending students for higher education from Punjab to Canada through technical Education Department. Mr. Channi said that Punjab Government will tie up with other countries also to stop the exploitation of Punjabi students in the hands of travel agents.  He said that there are daily news of travel agents committing frauds in the name of student visa. Technical Education Minister said that Punjab Government will not allow any travel agent to play with the lives of youth of Punjab. Mr. Channi said that Punjab Government to set up a special cell in the Technical Education Department which will collaborate with the International Universities and Colleges to send students abroad for study. Minister said that this will not only protect students from being exploited by the travel agents but will also provide a single credible platform in choosing courses and institutes for students interested in  studying abroad. Minister also directed the Technical Education Department officials to immediately tie with various countries and get their universities and colleges registered with the technical education department as soon as possible.
