The Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh today directed the officers of the Power Development Department (PDD) to ensure immediate restoration of the infrastructure damaged due to incessant rains in Kashmir so that the people do not suffer.The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing officers during a meeting convened to discuss the power scenario in the Valley in view of the heavy downpour.Commissioner Secretary PDD, Mr Dheeraj Gupta, Chief engineer EM &RE, Ms Shahnaz Goni and other senior officers were present in the meeting.Dr Singh asked the officers to synergize their efforts in order to ensure that the damaged infra is restored within the shortest possible time and directed for setting up of a control room to monitor the situation on the ground. He said a dedicated team of officers should be given the responsibility to ensure that the power supply is restored in the affected areas immediately.

The meeting was told that restoration of the damaged infra has been carried out to the maximum and the left over areas, if any, would be addressed soon. It was also given out that the necessary instructions have been passed on to the field staff to be alert and responsive to the problems being encountered by the people on account of the inclement weather conditions.The Deputy Chief Minister took extensive tour of the Srinagar city to assess the situation on the ground. He was accompanied by Commissioner/ Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, Mr Hridesh Kumar, VC, SDA, Mr Tehseen Mustafa, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Dr Shafqat Khan and other senior officers.Dr Singh directed the officers to ensure immediate dewatering of various water logged areas of Srinagar. He also called for pre4ssing into service additional pumps in the worst affected areas.The Deputy Chief Minister also visited Sheikhbagh and Press Colony to take stock of the work being done on the multi-level parking facilities and directed for early completion of these prestigious projects which would go a long way in resolving the parking issues and ensuring decongestion of the traffic in the Srinagar city. He said the officers of the executing agencies should hold regular meetings to ensure timely completion of these projects.
