Deputy Speaker Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi Wednesday met Private Secretary of union  Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Shipping, at his office and raised the issue of construction of tunnel on Bandipora - Gurez road.During the meeting, which was also attended by representatives from Border Roads Organisation (BRO), several issues were discussed – with special focus on building of a tunnel on the Bandipora Gurez road.The Deputy Speaker mentioned that the route remains inaccessible for seven months creating problem for people  of Gurez area.

During his interaction, Deputy Speaker also apprised Private Secretary about the dilapidated condition of Srinagar - Bandipora road. He also called for declaring    Bandipora - Gurezi road as national highway.Private Secretary assured the Deputy Speaker that Rs 20 Cr would soon be released through Central Road Fund (CRF) for Srinagar - Bandipora road and work for the same will start this year onlyDuring the meeting it was assured that allocation of funds, for other purposes, would soon be done.However, it was informed that the matter of tunnel needs to be taken up with Defence Ministry.
