Days after the Supreme Court of India asked Centre and Jammu and Kashmir government to "sit together" and find a solution to "contentious" issues including whether over 68 per cent Muslims in the state can be regarded as minority and avail benefits under the category, Communist Party of India (Marxist) senior leader and state secretary Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami said that New Delhi never showed seriousness in implementing the recommendations made by different Committees to improve the socio-economic status of Muslims living in India. “India doesn’t stop claiming that Jammu and Kashmir is the integral part of India and if it is so, then how come J&K can be deprived from the minority status. Instead of throwing the ball in the court of Centre and State, the petition should have been rejected outrightly,” Tarigami said.Tarigami told CNS that Muslims in India are a marginalized community. “Muslims are economically backward and ever since Modi has assumed charged, injustice has been done towards this community. Sachar Committee in its report had asked Centre to provide reservation to this community, but those recommendations were never implemented. The fact of the matter is that Muslims in India are living under the shadow of fear,” he said.

Accusing BJP of initiating and condoning the violence, Tarigami said that Modi’s ‘New India’ is nothing but to convert the country into Hindu Rashtra. “The Prime Minister of this country on record said that time has come to build a ‘New India’ and stop appeasement policy. By appeasement, he meant, that they should stop grooming and appeasing Muslims of this country,” he said and added that workers of BJP are vigorously pursuing the causes that are dear to Hindu nationalism.“The condition of Muslims is not better than a common Dalit. Muslims are facing indiscrimination at every front in India. “The installation of Yogi Adityanath as Chief Minister of the largest state of India is an eye-opener to all. Everyone knows about his communal record. He is truly a Hindu fanatic and under whose rule Muslims are likely to face backlashes from communal elements,” he said. (CNS)
