The employees working in J&K rural development department under centrally sponsored Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) continue to stage protests here for the eight consecutive day, demanding regularization of their services.Scores of Garameen Rozgar Sewaks, Technical Assistants, Accounts Assistants, Social Coordinators and program officers who assemble at Pratap Park on daily basis have been raising anti government slogans to press for their demands. The protestors are demanding regularization of services of employees who have completed seven years of service in the department. They have also been seeking enhancement in their remuneration ‘in view of high inflation’.Government has no clear cut job policy for us due to which future of hundreds of qualified youths is at stake. Most of us have crossed the overage limit fixed for a government job”, said a protestor. The protesters alleged that concerned Minister Abdul Haq had called some of the employees at his residence where he threatened them of dire consequences in case they don’t call off the ongoing strike. “We don’t trust the verbal promises of the Minister who claims that demands will be fulfilled after Model Code of Conduct will be over. He has made such false promises in the past as well,” said a protester to news agency CNS.The protesters said that until their demands are not fulfilled they will remain on strike. (CNS)
