Union Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Sushri Uma Bharti has said that India is moving very fast towards becoming an important world power and water will play an important  role in country’s development in the days to come.Addressing a seminar organized by Central Water Commission on the occasion of World Water Day in New Delhi today the Minister said that rivers and water will play an important role to strengthen our relations with neighbours like Nepal and Bangladesh. Referring to rivers of boarder areas Sushri Bharti said we are very sensitive towards them.Greeting countrymen on the occasion of World Water Day the Minister said “Water can be bane and boon both.  It can be bane in the form of flood and boon if utilized for irrigation”. The Minister said Government is keen to solve the problem of flood and drought through Inter –Linking of rivers. Referring to the Inter- State River Water Disputes (Amendment) Bill 2017 introduced in the Parliament recently, the Minister said the proposed tribunal can become a model for other Ministries to resolve Inter- States Disputes.

Union Minister of State   for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Shri Vijay Goel, Secretary Water Resources Dr. Amarjit Singh and Chairman Central Water Commission Shri Narendra Kumar also addressed the seminar. Experts from all over the country attended the daylong seminar on the theme “Waste Water – Monitoring and Management”.Globally, the vast majority of all the wastewater from our homes, cities, industry and agriculture flows back to nature without being treated or reused – polluting the environment, and losing valuable nutrients and other recoverable materials. Instead of wasting wastewater, we need to reduce and reuse it. In our homes, we can reuse grey water on our gardens and plots. In our cities, we can treat and reuse wastewater for green spaces. In industry and agriculture, we can treat and recycle discharge for things like cooling systems and irrigation. By exploiting this valuable resource, we will make the water cycle work better for every living thing and help in achieving the sustainable development goal.
