The General Purpose Committee (GPS) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council was met here today under the Chairmanship of Chairman, Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali to discuss various issues related to the overall functioning of the Legislative Council.Legislators, Naresh Kumar Gupta, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Firdous Ahmad Tak and Sofi Yousuf attended the meeting and gave their valuable suggestions and views to make the functioning of the legislature more vibrant and transparent.The Committee held wide ranging deliberations on the issues including, availability of infrastructure, vehicles and other allied facilities for the smooth functioning of the Council Secretariat as also the issues relating to the legislators. The Committee directed the Council Secretary to take up the matter of upgradation of existing infrastructure in the Meeting Hall for smooth conduct of meetings.It was also decided that the GPS will visit to Himachal Pradesh to interact with their counterpart and study their procedure for further improving the functioning of the Committee here.
As a reformative measure, the Committee directed the Council Secretariat to upload the proceedings of the House on official website besides recommendations of various House Committees.Secretary Legislative Council, Abdul Majid Bhat briefed the Committee about the functioning and measures initiated to further streamline and improve the system in the Council.Meanwhile, the Library Committee headed by Chairman, LC, Haji Anayat Ali inspected the Council Library and took stock of the arrangements made for the preservation of books and other records relating to the Council proceedings etc. The Chairman and Members enquired from the concerned staff about the present status of the books and steps taken for their safety.The Committee directed the concerned to take all necessary steps including repair and renovation of racks/almirah to ensure the safety of valuable treasure of books and other reference material. The Committee appreciated the dedication of the staff for preserving the old records of house proceedings including maiden proceeding of Upper House in 1957.The Members who accompanied the Chairman included, Yash Paul Sharma, Dr Shehnaz Ganai, Surinder Chowdry, S Charanjeet Singh and Ghulam Nabi Monga.
