The historic Punjab Vidhan Sabha Elections - 2017, that witnessed triangular fight for the first time gave a lead to Congress party that won on 77 seats with new entrant in Punjab AAP winning 20 seats. The incumbent SAD won on 15 seats and its alliance partner BJP winning 03 seats. The Independents won 2 seats in Punjab Vidhan Sabha - 2017 elections.The leading winners in 2017 Vidhan Sabha Elections included Captain Amarinder Singh (congress from Patiala), who won with the highest margin of 52407 votes, Mr. Prakash Singh Badal (SAD from Lambi), Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal (SAD from Jalalabad), Mr. Manpreet Singh Badal (Congress from Bathinda Urban), Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu (Congress from Amritsar East) Olympian Mr. Pargat Singh (Congress from Jalandhar Cant.) Mr. H.S Phoolka (AAP from Dakha) Mr. Sukhpal Singh Khaira (AAP from Bholath) Mr. Brham Mahindra (Congress from Patiala Rural)

The prominent losers in today's electoral fray included Mr. Bhagwant Mann (AAP from Jalalabad) Mr. Jarnail Singh (AAP from Lambi) Mrs. Rajinder Kaur Bhattal (Congress from Lahragaga) Mr. Sunil Jakhar (Congress from Abohar) Mr. Adaish Pratap Singh Kairon ( SAD from Patti).Congress party got {38.5%, 5924995} of votes, SAD getting {25.3%, 3898161} of vote, AAP getting {23.8%, 3659266} vote, BJP getting {5.3%, 819927} of votes and Independent getting {2.1%, 323088} of vote BSP {1.5%, 234283}, LIP {1.2%, 189228}, SAD(M) {0.3%, 49260}, APPA {0.2%, 37452}, RMPOI {0.2%, 37243}, CPI {0.2%, 34074} and NOTA {0.7%, 108157} of votes.Indian National Congress candidate Mr. Gurjit Singh Aujla for Amritsar Parliamentary Constituency has won the seat by margin of 1.95 lac votes defeating Mr. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chinna of BJP.In the todays winning list of MLA's outgoing Chief Minister Mr. Prakash Singh Badal of SAD was the oldest winning candidate with 89 years of age and Mr. Davinder Singh Ghubaya who won from Fazilka was the youngest candidate with 25 years of age entering Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

Out of the total 81 contesting women candidates, 06 women candidates won the elections. Ms. Aruna Chaudhry of INC won the election with maximum margin of 31917 votes from Dinanagar constituency whereas Ms. Rupinder Kaur Rubi won with the lowest margin of 10778 in women candidates.Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh won with maximum margin from Patiala City constituency defeating Mr. Dr. Balbir Singh of AAP party with 52407 votes and Mr. Davinder Singh Ghubaya of INC won with minimum margin of 265 votes from Fazilka constituency defeating Mr. Surjit Kumar Jyani of BJP party.In the Malwa region congress won 40 seats whereas AAP won 18 seats and SAD winning 08 seats, BJP won 01 seat and LIP captured 02 seats.Whereas in Majha Congress party got 22 seats with SAD getting 02 seats and BJP getting 01 seat. In Doaba Heartland, INC won 15, SAD 05, AAP 02 and BJP 01. V.K Singh Chief Electoral Office Punjab thanking the people of Punjab, representatives of all political parties, employees of all departments including Police & Paramilitary personnel and State PR Department for ensuring peaceful conduct of massive democratic exercise of elections said that fair, transparent and peaceful election has been a matter of great pride for all voters of Punjab.
