Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmed Khan, today chaired a meeting to review preparations for plantation drive that will start from March.Deputy Commissioners of Bandipora, Baramulla, Budgam, Kulgam, Pulwama, Kupwara, Ganderbal and ADCs of Anantnag and Shopian districts participated in the meeting via video conferencing, while as officials from Horticulture, Floriculture, Sericulture, Social Forestry, Soil Conservation, BEACON and others attended the meeting. The meeting was informed that the plantation drive has already been kick started but the massive drive will go on from March and conclude in first week of April.On the occasion, the Div Com directed for formulating a comprehensive action plan for effective plantation drive. He stressed the officers to put in concerted efforts to give Kashmir valley more green cover by planting more and more trees so that pristine glory of valley is restored besides environmental and ecological balance is protected and preserved.He directed the officials to conduct seminars in different educational institutions to create awareness about the drive. He also directed the officials to identify schools and colleges where saplings can be planted. The officials were asked to rope in Mohalla Committees, Masjid Committees and NGOs too to make the drive a huge success.
