Indian Dental Association (IDA) Jammu branch, in association with the Indira Gandhi Government Dental College (IGGDC), Jammu organized one-day convention on the awareness of “Hepatitis B-Prevention and Management” in the auditorium of IGGDC here today.Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Bhagat was chief guest on the occasion.The objective of organizing the convention was to highlight the importance of the Hepatitis B vaccination for everyone and even more important for the doctors who are attending the patients suffering with various ailments.The newly formed IDA also took lead in arranging the free vaccination for the Dental fraternity from across the State as a preventive measure on the occasion. The free vaccination drive for the dental fraternity will continue under the patronage of the IDA.Several in-service and former HoDs including, Principal IGGDC, Dr Romesh Singh, Principal GMC, Dr Zahid A Gillani, MS, IGGDC, Dr Sunita Puri, MS, GMC, Dr Romesh Gupta, MS, SSH, Dr Manoj Chalotra, President, IDA, Dr Ritesh Gupta, Dr Som Dutt, Dr T R Raina, Dental Surgeons and paramedics staff of IGGDC were present on the occasion.Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Government is committed to bring various reforms in every wing of the health & medical education department and to create better working environment for the doctors and other functionaries by creating adequate infrastructure. 

During the past some years, several steps in this direction have been taken. He said that the government is aware that the work load has considerably increased in all the institutions and the Government was contemplating measures to create posts of doctors and paramedics according to the requirement.He said that the government intends to start the PG Courses in the Dental College, Jammu from the current year for which the necessary formalities will be completed in time. He asked the Principal, IGGDC to take immediate steps to fulfil the norms required by the Dental council of India. He also assured to create more posts of Dental Surgeons and faculty members for which the proposals have been submitted to the Government. He called upon the doctors and paramedics to work with zeal and dedication as per the expectations of the people and maintain the dignity of the noble profession. The IDA also submitted a memorandum of demands including absorption of unemployed Dental Surgeons against vacant posts, creation of more posts of Dental Surgeons, checking illegal practice by unqualified persons, creation of separate Directorate for Dental Services on the analogy of Directorate of Health Services, setting up of registration office for Dental Surgeons in Jammu/Srinagar, increasing the seats of House Surgeons in IGGDC, Jammu to the Minister for consideration.The Minister assured to examine these demands on priority for appropriate action.Dr Romesh Singh welcomed the audience and highlighted the functioning of the College.Earlier, the IDA felicitated the Minister and other dignitaries by presenting them mementoes.
