Tehran , 18 Dec 2016

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed his country's commitment to the July 2015 nuclear agreement, insisting that Iran will continue to collaborate with the International Atomic Energy Agency. In a meeting with IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano, President Rouhani said that Iran has been loyal to its commitments to the nuclear agreement so far, Efe news reported on Sunday citing The Islamic Republic News Agency. He emphasised that Iran will fulfill its obligations as long as the other parties do, per the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. The agreement with the P5+1 (the US, Britain, China, Russia, France and Germany) limited Iran's nuclear capabilities in exchange for lifting the international sanctions imposed against the country.Rouhani claimed that the recent US measures, especially the extension of Iran's Sanctions Act, are incompatible with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The president also expressed his hopes that Iran and the IAEA could have good technical cooperation in the field of nuclear-powered engines for maritime transport.Amano said that Iran has remained committed to its pledges under JCPOA since the implementation of the deal last January, and reassured the president that the agency will observe impartiality in providing technical reports about the Iranian nuclear program, IRNA reported.During his visit to the Islamic Republic on Sunday, Amano also conferred with the head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali-Akbar Salehi and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.Amano's visit coincided with the rising tensions between Washington and Tehran following the extension of Iran's Sanctions Act for 10 more years.
