Adequate representation forPunjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday said women and youth would be given due representation in the matter of ticket allocation for the coming Assembly elections in the state.Reiterating that the main criteria in selection of party candidates would be winnability, Captain Amarinder told mediapersons that the credibility of the candidates would also be a key factor in nomination.Talking to mediapersons at the launch of the party’s flagship campaign `Har Ghar Ton Ikk Captain’, the Punjab Congress President said work on the finalisation of the tickets had already begun, with the Congress Screening Committee meeting in New Delhi today and tomorrow.Responding to questions, Captain Amarinder said the Congress would have to toil hard in Punjab to fulfill the aspirations of the people, especially youth and farmers, who had been subjugated and victimized under the Badal rule.On a question regarding revival of industries, Captain Amarinder said complete radicalization of policies would be required to ensure that Punjab emerges an attractive destination for industry. Stressing the need to reverse the trend of industries shifting to other states from Punjab, he said they will be given level playing field at par with the incentives in other regions.
Allaying the apprehensions of arhtiyas that they would lose their money as a result of the farm debt waiver promised by his party, Captain Amarinder reassured them that they would get back their loans. “We will take over all loans and ensure that the arhtiyas are paid,” said Captain Amarinder, adding that he would be meeting a delegation of arhtiyas on December 4.Captain Amarinder also disclosed that his party was in the process of finalizing a comprehensive programme for the welfare of the Dalits, who have been severely marginalized and subjected to atrocities by the ruling Akalis, as well as for the uplift of the urban areas.Denying that funds crunch could impact the fulfillment of his promises to the people post election, Captain Amarinder said he, along with party leaders, was working on out-of-the-box initiatives for revenue generation to ensure the fulfillment of all the promises.Asked about the Modi government’s demonetisation move and its impact on the people of Punjab, the PPCC president said there was extreme bitterness and anger among the people against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).On a lighter note, Captain Amarinder once again confirmed that the forthcoming Assembly polls would be his last election, as also the last election for PPCC Senior Vice President Laal Singh, also present at the launch event. women, youth in ticket allocation : Captain Amarinder Singh
