Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh asked the senior functionaries of various departments to work in close coordination and synergy for  putting in place requisite arrangements for smooth celebration of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth anniversary and annual Jhiri Mela.Simrandeep Singh was chairing a separate meeting to review the arrangements for Gurupurab (Prakash Utsav) of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji falling on November 14and Jhiri Mela commencing from November 12 to 20.ADC Jammu Arun Manhas, SSP Rural Arun Kumar, SSP Traffic, SDM Marh Ved Prakash and senior officers of police, district administration and members of Jhiri Mela Committee were also present in the meeting.In a meeting to discuss the Gurpurab arrangements, it was informed that Nagar Kirtan will be taken out on November 12 and Gurpurab will be celebrated onNovember 14.Threadbare discussions were held on important issues including un-interrupted power and water supply, security arrangements during Nagar Kirtan, special drive for sanitation and hygiene campaign, diversion of transport during Nagar Kirtan, deployment of medical teams equipped with ambulances, repairs and restoration of roads etc.While discussing the arrangements for Gurpurab, DC directed the Municipal authorities to ensure cleanliness  and asked the PHE department to ensure uninterrupted water supply with an additional water tanker at the venue and PDD was asked to provide uninterrupted power supply.

Specific directions were given to fire services, health department, police authorities to ensure availability of fire tenders at the venue, ambulances & adequate medical staff, security and traffic arrangements for smooth celebrations.Later in a separate meeting, Simrandeep Singh took stock of the arrangements put in place for annual Jhiri Mela. The annual fair which attracts devotees from all parts of the country commences from November 12.  All the arrangements for the convenience of the devotees have been made by the administration and the Mela Committee.DC directed SDM Marh to ensure cleanliness and hygiene in and around the vicinity during Mela days He directed the functionaries of R&B to ensure the repair and improvement works for the convenience of the devotees. He asked the PHE Department to ensure uninterrupted water supply with provision for additional water tanks, hand pumps and sprinklers for cleaning of venue. He also instructed Power Department to ensure proper lighting arrangements in addition to un-interrupted power supply at the venue throughout the mela days. Irrigation Department was directed to construct bathing ghats and erection of barricading.

Stressing on providing adequate security arrangements, DC asked the police authorities to provide adequate security and also to chalk out traffic management plan.DC asked the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs authorities to keep check on the rates and quality. Health Department was directed to keep sufficient provision for medicare facilities and medical staff.Simrandeep Singh asked different departments to install stalls of their respective department to deliver enhanced services to the devotees visiting the Jhiri and directed SDM Marh to personally monitor the process of setting up of stalls.Academy of Art, Culture and Languages was asked to organize cultural programmes showcasing our rich culture and heritage during mela days. It was informed in the meeting that the calendar for mela days will be issued for the smooth conduct of Jhiri Mela. Youth Services & Sports departments informed that Kabaddi tournament will be organized and the volunteers will render their services during the mela days.Members of Mela committee also gave their suggestions for making the event a grand success.
