Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kathua Ramesh Kumar today asked the education department to bring qualitative changes in the educational standards and provide  proper counseling to the students helping them to understand their aptitude and choose their  career accordingly .The DC said this during a meeting convened  to review the functioning of education department.To improve the overall performance of students of IX and X class under RMSA, the DC asked for conducting result oriented remedial classes with best faculties for Math, Science and English. He called for laying special emphasis on weak students and suggested to hold special classes for them after school time for 2 hours daily. He stressed on selecting accessible location for remedial classes which can be central place for students. He said the teacher-students ratio shall be maintained for better personal attention to students. He further said that regular assessments on fortnightly basis shall be held to monitor improvement of the students.

The DC further exhorted upon the school heads to do all needful for regular career counseling at school level. He suggested for holding one day career counseling workshop in all the Higher Secondary Schools by  inviting experts of various fields viz civil services, railways, police, army, higher education, engineers, doctors, lawyers to help the students to choose their profession. While highlighting the importance of imbibing self confidence among the girl students, the DC directed school authorities to include self defense training module of 7-10 days in higher secondary schools. He added that after completion of self defense training module a competition shall be organized at zonal level to develop interest among the students. He further added that interested teachers should be trained to become resource persons for imparting training in future. 

He also laid special emphasis on early establishment of Resource Room for specially abled students.The DDC also directed for subscribing employment news at all higher secondary schools besides a regular subscription of periodicals like Yojna, Kurukshetra, and Frontline etc. for references. He also called for inclusion of quiz competitions during morning assembly.Referring to skill development programmes under SSA for Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya(KGBV) students, the DC impressed upon the need for including skill development courses in Basohli paintings and basic computer courses as module for all KGBV schools in the district. He laid special stress for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of stipend, scholarship and other benefits under various schemes besides 100% ADHAAR seeding of school students. The DC also stressed on developing boarding facilities at all KGBV schools.While reviewing the progress of the implementation of Kala Utsav programme under RMSA, he said the objective of the programme is to promote arts in education by nurturing the artistic talent of school students which shall be ensured. He directed CEO to gave due preference to local folk so that it shall be promoted at all levels.The DC asked CEO to hold orientation programme for the ZEOs to enhance their administrative skills, understanding of financial codes and   guidelines for implementation of various schemes.
