Social Welfare Department, Udhampur today organised an awareness programme on ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ at Nari Nikatan.District Development Commissioner, Udhampur,  Niraj Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion.While speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of Social Welfare Department for organising such camps. Enumerating the various objectives of the scheme, DC said that such awareness programmes would help in ensuring empowerment of women through education and equal participation in all the fields besides preventing  sex selective elimination of girl child.

During the programme, the District Social Welfare Officer called upon the people to come forward for  availing the benefits of  various schemes and programmes of the Department and further, informed that a computer cum coaching class was also established last year at Nari Niketan for educating the orphans. Various cultural programmes were also presented by the students of Nari Niketan which were highly appreciated by the audience present on the occasion.Earlier, DC also distributed 4 motorized tricycles among the differently abled under Motorized tricycle scheme for handicapped persons provided by Rehabilitation Council Among others, Joint Director Planning, Mr. Rakesh Jamwal, PO ICDS , Assistant Commissioner Development,  Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer,  SDM Chenani, Dy DEO, DSWO, BDOs and  CDPOs.
