With an aim to generate awareness among the farmers regarding the cultivation of commercial floriculture crops, Floriculture Department today organized a district-level training programme on ‘Commercial Floriculture’ at Jakhani Park, here today.A large number of farmers and flower growers participated in the training programme.Speaking on the occasion, Director Floriculture asked the farmers to take up commercial floriculture which will enable them to earn 4 to 5 times more profit as compared to other crops. He urged the farmers to cultivate Marigold, Cultivars, Pusa Narangi, Pusa Basanti and Gladiolus as cut flowers.He further assured them that the department would provide good quality saplings to the farmers interested in floriculture and called upon them to come forward for availing the opportunities in this sector.
Assistant Floriculture Officer, Udhampur Pawan Kumar informed the farmers about various state and centrally sponsored schemes including Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY). He appealed the farmers to take optimum benefit of these schemes.During the programme, the farmers were also asked to adopt micro irrigation system like Drip and Sprinkler Irrigation under Prime Minister’s Krishi Sinchai Yojna.Director Floriculture Jammu, KK Sharma, Floriculture Officer, Floriculture Officer (Nodal Officer CSS), Dharam Veer Gupta and Assistant Floriculture Officer, Udhampur Pawan Kumar were present on the occasion.
