Governor N.N. Vohra, Chancellor of the Sher-e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences (SKUAST-K), today reviewed the implementation status report received from Prof. Nazeer Ahmed, Vice Chancellor of the University, on the University’s functioning. On the research side, All India Co-ordinated Research and Centrally sponsored projectactivities have been proceeding satisfactorily; about 50 students who had qualified for JRF and SRF/Merit Scholarships offered by the State Agriculture University and ICAR were relieved for joining theinstitutions in the country to which they have been allotted; 6 Assistant Professors who had been awarded the prestigious UGC Raman Fellowships have been relieved for joining different institutions in USA. Briefing the Governor about the academic activities, Prof. Ahmed informed the Governor that: Universityconducted counselling for Post Graduate Programmes and filled all the seats as per the available seat matrix in the various Faculties.

The University is fully prepared for conducting counselling for admission to Under Graduate programmes immediately after BOPEE concludes its counselling schedule; preparations for the Convocation to be addressed by the President of India in September are proceeding satisfactorily;University has conducted entrance test for Basic Horticulture Training in Kargil and Leh districts and the course shall commence in September;experimental data recording, harvesting, seed collection, processing and distribution to Governmental agencies and farmers is underway smoothly; Farm Advisories are being issued through print and electronic media for enlarging the awareness of the farming community.Regarding administrative functioning: VC informed the Governor that offices of the KVK Budgam and KVK Kupwara which were functioning from the University premises have since been relocated in their respective district headquarters in  rented accommodations in the interest of the farming community; imported High Density Planting materials have been received and are presently stored in the Cold Storage in Lassipora, Pulwama; civil works, renovation, repair and up gradation activities are going on in the University  despite difficulties regarding the receipt of construction materials.Complimenting the Vice Chancellor on the commendable advancements in the number of Fellowships secured by the students, the Governor urged him to maintain sustained pace for securing continuing upgradation of academic, research and extension activities, visible improvement in the production and productivity levels and ensuring efficient functioning of all the KVKs.
