A brave student was awarded posthumously by the Minister of Public Health Engineering Department, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary during the 70th Independence Day function in Ramban.The boy, Rakesh Kumar (14), a class 8th student of Government Middle School, Ladhwal, Batote lost his life while saving Shalvi Devi,5 and Payal Devi,13 of the same school when they got trapped in a flooded stream following the cloud burst on May 12 this year. His father, Satish received the award.District Correspondent of Tribune and Prasar Bharti(AIR,DD), Ravinder Kishen Kichlu, Dy Sp (Hq), Mohammad Rafiq Choudhary, Dy.SP Traffic National Highway, Tehsildar (Headquarter), Sunil Kumar Dogra were awarded for the ‘Outstanding Services’ in their respective fields.Senior leader Vishvabandhu Sharma , Sarpanch Parnote, Choudhary Abdul Gani were also awarded for their contribution in maintaining communal harmony.Kanika Raju of Ramban and Gazala Latif of Banihal were awarded for securing 87.6% in 12th and 93.4% in 10th respectively besides Manzar Azam of Sangaldan was awarded for getting MBBS seat in All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
