On the eve of our Independence Day, a "Tiranga Yatra" was organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), in city today. A large number of students from various city schools, members of Youth Clubs, and several other organisations participated in this event. The Yatra was flagged off by Ludhiana (East) MLA Mr Ranjit Singh Dhillon from Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students, here, and after passing through Ghumar Mandi area, finished at SCD Government College.While addressing the students, MLA Mr Ranjit Singh Dhillon informed that this Tiranga Yatra was organised by the NYKS, Youth Affairs & Sports Department, Government of India, in 100 different districts of the country. He said that the main aim of organising this event was to educate the masses, especially the youth of our country, about National Integration, Communal Harmony and the importance of Independence.

A play named "Shaheed" and choreography about Independence was also held in the auditorium of SCD Government College. Two freedom fighters, Mr Nirmal Singh and Smt Mohni Rani (wife of freedom fighter Pyare Lal) were honoured by ADC (General) Dr Rishi Pal Singh on the occasion.Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu, Principal, SCD Government College and Dr Ashwani Kumar Bhalla, Professor, SCD Government College, spoke about National Integration and Communal Harmony.Prominent among those present on the occasion included Col Amarjit Singh, Principal, Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students, Ludhiana, Mr Sarabjit Singh Bedi, District Youth Coordinator, NYKS, Mr Balbir Singh, besides several others.
