Despite strict restrictions, AIP today carried a sit-in in front of UN Offices at Sonawar to protest against failure of United Nations to fulfil its duties towards people of J&K. Dozens of protestors led by Er Rasheed succeeded in making it to the main gate of UN and started chanting slogans ‘UN wake-up, wake up’ , ‘Plebiscite long live long live’ and ‘integral part down down’. The protestors were carrying play-cards seeking plebiscite for J&K. On the occasion Er Rasheed handed over a memorandum to the UN Observer Group seeking United Nations pro-active role in implementing UN resolution and forcing India to stop its inhuman activities on unarmed people of J&K. However, police swung into action and forcefully disbursed the sit-in and arrested Er Rasheed along with 8 other protestors and lodged them police station Ram Munshi Bagh.

Talking to media persons before his arrest, Er Rasheed said that UN has miserably failed in its duties not only in fulfilling the promise to give Kashmiris right to self-determination, but also to use its influence in stopping use of excessive force on unarmed Kashmiris. Er Rasheed added that world community must realise that the current mass uprising is not confined to valley only but people of Jammu and Ladakh have also joined the genuine resistance struggle. Er Rasheed further said that Indian propaganda about Kashmir and Kashmiris is absolutely baseless and UN must read writings on the wall, which clearly read that Kashmiris want peace and are not seeking the solution on communal or religious basis.
