Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh today chaired a meeting to review the law and order and essential services position in Jammu region. He also reviewed security and other arrangements for Shri Amarnath pilgrims.The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal, IGP Danesh Rana, DIG Ashkoor Ahmad Wani, Commissioner JMC, Mandeep Kaur, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh, Additional Commissioner, Rehana Batul,  SSP Traffic Udaya Bhaskar Billa, SSP Security Ramesh Angral  and Chief Engineers from R&B, PHE and PDD.At the outset of the meeting, Dr Nirmal Singh was apprised about arrangements made for accommodation of stranded pilgrims at Jammu, Samba, Ramban and Udhampur.The meeting was informed that sufficient accommodation has been made available with backup provision at Geeta Bhawan and Bhagwati Nagar. It was informed that with the resuming of Yatra today there will be no lack of accommodation for new Yatris.

It was assured that the administration has taken all measures to maintain peace and harmony among people. He was told about the continuous communication channels being maintained among administration and civil society members.About the return of Yatris from the Valley, it was informed that 700 vehicles have left Srinagar for Jammu.While reviewing the oil supply viz, aviation turbine fuel and other fuel to valley, it was decided that    adequate security would be provided to oil Tankers, while toll free helpline numbers  would be provided to Transport  unions for dissemination to truck drivers  for quick response in  case of any  emergency.Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister instructed the administration to ensure peace and security in the region with the support of all stakeholders. He emphasized on ensuring communal harmony and brotherhood with the involvement of people from all walks of life.   He stressed the need for sensitizing masses about misuse of social media in spreading rumors. He said there was immediate need to curb rumor mongering at all costs. In this regard, he instructed Police to ensure that there is timely monitoring of the social media content.

He said that saving innocent lives was the prime concern of present dispensation and for this ‘we must utilize all means in a careful manner including   support from civil society member, religious leaders as well as political leaders.It was also informed that adequate arrangements have been made for return of state employees stranded in Jammu to reach their places of posting in the valley with special care being taken for their comfortable stay there.The Deputy Chief Minister further instructed the officers of R&B, PHE and PDD to ensure uninterrupted services including water, electricity and   macadamization of roads.
