National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah on Wednesday visited the Mazar-e-Shuhada (Martyrs’ Graveyard) at Ziyarat Hazrat Naqshband Sahab (RA) at Shehar-e-Khaas in Srinagar to pay tributes to the valiant martyrs of 13th July, 1931 on the occasion of 86th Martyrs’ Day. The NC Working President offered Fateha at the Martyrs’ Graveyard and offered floral tributes. The National Conference Working President as per statement issued to KNS was accompanied by Senior Party Leaders including NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, Senior Leader Abdul Rahim Rather, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Mohammad Akbar Lone and Provincial President YNC Salman Ali Sagar besides various party leaders, office bearers and activists.Paying glowing tributes to the martyrs, Omar Abdullah said the sacrifices of our valiant heroes paved the way for the eradication of tyranny and autocracy from the State and sowed the seeds of democracy and dignity in our system.

“The sacrifice of the Martyrs to free the society from autocracy and lay edifice for democracy and human dignity is one of the richest chapters in the history of Jammu and Kashmir”, the National Conference Working President said. Expressing profound grief and sorrow over the loss of lives in the current unrest in the Valley, Omar Abdullah said the State Government was unfortunately more invested in portraying a false sense of normalcy in the State rather than actually working towards normalizing the situation by ending the cycle of killings and violence.“The primary responsibility to stop the cycle of killings and violence is that of the Government and that must be done immediately. We are prepared to play whatever role necessary at the political level to improve the situation but first the Government must act and ensure there is no further loss of lives,” Omar Abdullah added.

“The Central Government should send more medicines and specialists to the Valley at this time. If the Government can send more troops to the Valley, it can also send more medicines and supplies to help our hospitals and doctors to deal with this heart-rending extra-ordinary situation”, the NC Working President further said. The National Conference Working President said it was tragic that the Administration in the State was seen more busy in ferrying civilians in Police vehicles to the Martyrs’ Graveyard this morning to portray a crowd in front of the Chief Minister rather than actually aiding people in need and helping in improving the situation. “Normalcy cannot be forcibly portrayed when the ground situation is so grim. These are wrong, tragically insensitive priorities,” Omar Abdullah added. (KNS)
