The Punjab Education Minister Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema hailed a unique initiative of Union Human Resource Development Minister Mrs. Smriti Zubin Irani of launching teacher education portal `Prashikshak’ in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi today. While talking to media persons after the launching ceremony Dr. Cheema said that linking District Institute of Education and Training (DIETs) across the country is the need of  the hour.“This will provide a uniform platform for information sharing, dissemination of knowledge and exchange of ideas among the faculty and students of 588 DIETs of different part of the country” said Cheema. In addition it will help in monitoring the working of various DIETs as well as promoting a feeling of healthy competition. The data sharing of various indicators of education will also help in judging the level of quality education in different states.

Dr. Cheema further said that so far there was no mechanism of coordination among the DIETs of the different state which was a great hinderance in the spread of best practices from one DIET to the other DIET of even the neighbouring state.Dr. Cheema also appreciated the decision of MHRD adding regional languages in mode of communication and said that it will further add to the effectiveness and efficiency and involvement of more teachers and students with the portal. It can also help in arranging interactive sessions among the teachers and students of the DIETs and it can also be used as a medium to answer the queries of the teaching faculty of the DIETs through out the country.Earlier Union HRD Minister launched the teacher education portal `Prashikshak’ in the presence of Union Minister of State Mr. Upendera Khushwaha and Prof Ram Shanker Katheria and Education Ministers of Assam, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttrakhand, Madhya Pardesh and Rajasthan.
