Hundreds of vehicles were Tuesday stranded after the residents of Brari Pora, Handwara, blocked the highway to protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to provide adequate water supply to them.The protesting residents assembled at the highway and blocked it for almost three hours while chanting anti-department slogans.According to KNS correspondent, Bhat Shameem, the protesting residents said that they are facing tremendous hardships in the month of Ramadhan due to the non-availability of water from past several days. “We are being deprived of drinking water from past couple of days. The department has miserably failed to provide adequate water supply to them,” they said.Eye-witnesses said that hundreds of vehicles were seen stranded after the residents of Braipora held a sit-in on the highway for three hours.Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) and Tehsildar Handwara reached to the spot and assured protesting residents that they will be make four water tankers available for them so that their sufferings would end.Meanwhile, after the assurances by AEE and Tehsildar Handwara, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
