Accusing the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for ignoring their plights, the resident of several Anantnag villages here have demanded immediate redressal of their genuine grievances.People of several villages including Kamad, Bonadialgam, schichen, Kamad check Anantnag and other adjoining villages alleged that they face tremendous hardships due to an acute shortage of water supply from last one month.Villagers told to KNS that they staged protests several times against the authorities for not providing safe drinking water but unfortunately that too went into deaf ears.Miffed over the 'callous' attitude of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, the villagers of kamad and other adjoining villages intimidate the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department to look into the matter otherwise they will come on streets and will protest against the department.

While talking to KNS, Mustaq Ahmed, resident of Kamad said, “We are being deprived of water facility and despite repeated requests neither the concerned department nor the administration bothered to sort our hardships. They said that despite tall claims of authorities to have made all arrangements for people during this holy month of Ramadhan, the department has miserably failed to restore drinking water to their area.“We are forced to cover a distance of almost a kilometre to fetch drinking water from tube wells for cooking and drinking. We will be forced to intensify protests if authorities fail to restore the water supply at the earliest,” he added.Meanwhile, a delegation from Bonadialgam, Wanihama here also complained of water scarcity and urged authorities to look into the matter.Despite repeated attempts the officials of PHE department could not be contacted for comments.
