Governor Acharya Devvrat on the occasion of 'Natya Utsav' organized by Language, Art and Culture Department in collaboration with Art Council of Haryana at historic Gaiety Theatre, Shimla last evening said that theatre was a powerful medium of expression which creates awareness among the people to fight against the social evils. Lady Governor Smt. Darshana Devi also accompanied him. The Governor said that the theatre plays an important role in sensitizing people and creating awareness about various important issues like environment protection besides social evils, female foeticide, drug menace etc. He said that it would also help in promoting our rich culture. Appreciating the performance of artists, who presented a play on the occasion, he said that their strong performance was definitely able to create a powerful impact on the audience. He urged the Language, Art and Culture department and the Haryana State Arts Council to organize such functions in future also to spread strong messages of social significance.Acharya Devvrat said that the there was no difference between girls and boys in the society and today, girls were performing well and were excelling in every sphere. 

He said that awareness needs to be spread regarding female foeticide and for total eradication of this social evil. He urged the theatre artists to raise such issues through their performances so that it could become a mass movement. The Governor also enjoyed the play "The First Teacher" performed by the artists of Alankar Theater. It was directed by Shri Chakresh Kumar which was based on the theme 'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’.Director, Language, Art and Culture Smt. Shashi Thakur welcomed the Governor.Director, Haryana Arts Council Shri Ajay Singhal proposed vote of thanks.Vice Chairman, Haryana Arts Council Shri Sudesh Sharma and other prominent persons of the town were also present on the occasion.Earlier, the Governor also visited an exhibition- "West Wild World 2016” of Shri Om Prakesh Sharma organised by Language, Art & Culture department at the historic Gaiety Theatre. Shri Om Prakesh had used waste material of everyday use in the art of sculpture and prepared unmatched diverse wildlife and beautiful flower bouquets.On this occasion, the Governor said that the artist has revealed the love towards animals through the exhibition which was really admirable. He said that wildlife conservation was important in the present perspective. He asked the department to organize workshops on art of sculpture with school children to keep the genre alive.
