In order to create environmental awareness among the residents of Dal Lake particularly the youth, the BASIX Social Enterprise Group in collaboration with J&K RTI Movement and Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI) concluded its three day awareness programme on Saturday. The 3 day programme was  focused on highlighting  the pathetic condition of Dal Lake among local residents which included the students of Vishwa Bharti Women’s College Rainawari Srinagar .During the concluding programme on Saturday  a large number of students from Vishwa Bharti college along with college teachers  were taken on a boat ride through the filthy areas of Dal Lake like Jogi Lankar, Saida Kadal, Kaen Kachi, Abi Karpora.  The boat ride concluded at Nehru Park where senior  officials of Lakes & Water Ways Development Authority (LAWDA), Activists and officials of BASIX Group addressed the students.

Large number of environmental activists, RTI campaigners  and journalists also participated in this programme. Students posed series of questions to the senior officers of Lakes & Water Ways Development Authority . Social Activist Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat, Coordinator J&K RTI Movement  Dr Mushtaq Khan, Spokesman Farooq Kuthoo, and  PRO LAWWDA also interacted with the students. The students pledged to continue to participate in such programmes. They urged upon the authorities to provide dustbins to Dal residents and to undertake scientific solid waste management inside the lake.BASIX  Social Enterprise Group is planning to undertake the door to door collection of garbage in some selected areas located around Dal Lake in the upcoming days.
