Senior PDP Leader and Member of Parliament, Tariq Hameed Karra Sunday demanded to the State Govt to stop the forcible implementation of NFSA in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. In a statement issued to KNS, Karra showed dismay about non application of mind by the department of CAPD in the previous government. He said that while mooting the bill in the Assembly, many contentious issues like extent of benefit, number of beneficiaries, food habits and even the fact that the updating of records was manipulated, were overlooked, thereby hundreds and thousands of people were pushed to starvation.“It was only after the intervention of the former CM Mufti Sahib, the Govt started saying that the provisions of the bill would be amended to the benefit of the general masses. But till then the department had spent crores of rupees in the shape of advertisement to the newspapers across the state to blow its advantages and benefits out of proportion,” he said.

Surprisingly the people, who were responsible for an un-mindful act of putting the people to miseries and forcing them to come on roads, started criticising Governor for enacting the bill.

Karra further castigated the insensitivities and irresponsible attitude of certain DC's for forwarding incorrect information to Governor of the state. “Whereas the fact is that hundreds and thousands of families have been left out of the beneficiaries list prepared under the supervision of DC's,” he said.He said that the records at the ration depots all across the state have been ignored while preparing these lists. “Everything has been done in a huff, which needs to be rectified. The food habits have not been considered while doing this mindless exercise,” he said.He said that it is surprising to know that people in Kashmir are supplied with 2kgs of Wheat per soul instead of Atta and they are being asked to get it crushed from small wheat crushing mills (Chakkies). “Can the department of CAPD provide the list of such Chakkies functional in Kashmir especially Srinagar city. And more interestingly this 2 kg of Wheat is deducted from allocated 5 Kgs of rice per soul thereby entitling only 3 Kgs of rice per soul per month,” he said.

Though Governor has ordered enhancement of 2 kgs per soul but that has not been implemented as yet.Karra has demanded to the Govt that the records be rectified and the bill be amended so that the large population of our State is benefitted in term of quantum of ration. He also demanded that a method be devised whereby in certain cases the selling price could be different above a slab. Till then, Karra demanded, that the previous system of Public distribution whereby 35 Kgs of ration per ration card be adopted. He further suggested to the Govt that a hit of hundred or two hundred crores of rupees to the Public exchequer for saving the poor people from starvation is not a big deal which should be seriously considered and the methods evolved.Karra further demanded a probe and accountability of people responsible for such mindless and reckless act and wasting of crores of rupees for publicising an anti people act thereby loss to the Public exchequer.
