In a bid to curb over-charging at Sonamarg, a joint inspection/raid was conducted today by the Director Tourism, Kashmir, Chief Executive Officer, Sonamarg, ARTO Ganderbal and SHO, Tourist Police in which papers of sixty vehicles were impounded.This action was taken by the Director Tourism, Kashmir, Mr. Mahmood A. Shah after receiving complaints from Tourists and other Tourism Stake Holders.The Director Tourism directed SDA, Motor Vehicles Department and SHO Tourist Police to carry out periodic drives against the violators for checking the rates so that tourists do not face any inconvenience during their visit to Sonamarg. He said action will be taken against the violators as per the law. 

Mr. Shah also chaired a meeting with the taxi operators and ponywalas and office bearers of local Beopar Mandal at Sonamarg Development Authority office. A threadbare discussion was held for upgrading way side amenities along Srinagar Sonamarg route for tourists. He directed Tourism and SDA officials to keep these facilities in good condition. The meeting also decided that flyers indicating rates will be provided at the entry point so that tourists get first hand information about the rates and places of attraction.
