On International Women’s Day, Union Food Processing Minister  Harsimrat Kaur Badal today gave a clarion call to women to wage a war against social evils like Dowry and Female feticide besides creating awareness among people to put a full stop on the crime against women.Addressing the massive gathering of women attending the Kirtan Darbar organized by Nanhi Chaan Trust here at Khalsa college to mark International Women’s Day, Mrs. Badal appealed them to vow to weed out social evils from the roots.She said that only collective efforts would proved to be fruitful in eradicating social evils from society. She said that complete elimination of female feticide and dowry system is the need of hour and women should run an inclusive campaign to aware people of the outcomes of these evils.

Strongly advocating the dowry free marriages, Mrs. Badal said that our great Gurus have also preached to bravely oppose such social evils and we should pledge that we will not only opt for dowry free marriage but also encourage it. She said that women could effectively play an important role in suppressing such evils to give birth to a healthy society.Expressing deep concern over crime against women, Mrs. Badal said that the data of crime against was alarming and there should be serious actions at all level to safeguard the women rights. She appealed the women to play an active role in the society around them and get united against any crime against women. She said that women should start campaigns and quoted that ‘Nanhi Chaan’ campaign has bring a big positive change in the gender ratio of the state.

Earlier replying to media queries regarding women reservation bill, Mrs Badal holds opposition responsible for delay.Meanwhile addressing the gathering, President Istri Akali Dal and former SGPC Chief Bibi Jagir Kaur appealed the women to come forward for the formation of a better tomorrow. She said that only combined efforts can lead to any change in the society.On this occasion Nanhi Chaan charitable trust also distributed saplings. Prominent amongst others President Instri Akali Dal Amritsar Mrs. Rajwinder Kaur, Mrs. Rajwinder Kaur Raju, Mrs. Gurdev Kaur Sangha were also present on the occasion.
