Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ganai Wednesday directed Department of Public Health Engineering (PHE) to work tirelessly in providing clean and safe drinking water to the public.Mr Ganai said safe drinking water should be supplied to the public. He stated this during a review meeting of the PHE department here.The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer, PHE, Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, SE, Hydraulic Circle Latief Ahmad Malik, Executive Engineer, Bilal Rasool, among other senior officers of the department.“For keeping water sources safe and free from any contamination, people have to play their part too,” he stressed.“We should have a mechanism wherein we invite people’s participation to de-pollute and clean the water bodies. There should also be an increase in the availability of pure water,” he said.  “We have also to ensure safe, reliable, and affordable supply of drinking water that is necessary for health, productivity, and entire standard of living,” Mr Ganai said.“People should be sensitized about their duty towards keeping water sources safe and clean,” he said. “It requires effort and teamwork, including government officials, water utility operators, and the public,” he added.

Meanwhile the Advisor was also informed about the 10 MGD WSS Tangnaar that has come up at a cost of Rs.148.37 crore.“River Jhelum is the source of the scheme. Pump stations & pre settling tanks located at Sempora. The scheme will cater to Water Supply Zone – V of Greater Srinagar,” Chief Engineer, PHE, Ghulam Muhammad Bhat said.He said that the areas to be benefited by the water supply scheme would be through 2.65 MG Low Zone Service Reservoir. The areas on the right bank of Jhelum include Panthachowk, Athwajan, Pandrethan, BB Cantonment, Indranagar, Batwara, Shivpora, Iqbal Colony Sonwar, etc, while areas to be benefited by the scheme  on the left bank of Jhelum are Summerbugh, Rakhi Shalina, Shalina, Kandizal, Sathoo, Golpora, Lasjan, Soiteng, Paadshahibagh, Nowgam, BonporaPaadshahibagh, Natipora (Partly), Budshahnagar, Faizabad, Gulshan Nagar, Bagh-i-Mehtab, Kanihama, Kanipora Kalidar, Chekpora, Gangipora, Pohroo, Wagoora, Sutsoo, Khanda, Baghat-i-Kanipora, Kralpora, Mochu, Chekpora Kralpora, Dangerpora, Sheikhpora, Kuthipora, Chatergam, Kuzwera, Bogam, Dooniwari, Balpora-Sheikhpora, Hanjigund, etcHe informed that through 0.68 MG High Zone Service Reservoir, areas including Zawoora, Zewan, Khanmoh, Zaffran Colony, Sempora, Noorani Colony, Frastbal, Sheikh-ul-alam Colony, Pampore, Baghinder, Meij, Konibal, Kongposh Colony, Baghizainab area, Balhama, Wuyan, Green colony, Dhrool,  Khrew, Androosa, Sharshali, Kadlabal, Munapora, Chatlam, would be benefitted.“Population around 3 lakh in Srinagar and other adjoining areas would be benefitted by the Tangnaar water supply scheme,” the official said. They said that the metering system for user charges to be introduced through the scheme.
